HC Deb 12 November 1912 vol 43 c1809
64. Mr. CHARLES BATHURST

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he will provide, or cause to be provided, out of the Development Fund moneys, at least as large a sum for the improvement of cattle, sheep, and pigs, upon which the poorer agriculturists depend mainly for their living, as has been provided for the improvement of light horses?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

A scheme for the improvement of livestock other than light horses has been submitted by the Board to the Development Commissioners, and I have reason to believe that a decision will be arrived at with regard to it at an early date.

Mr. C. BATHURST

Has the right hon. Gentleman realised that £40,000 is being devoted to light horses and nothing whatever to other kinds of farm stock?

65. Mr. C. BATHURST

asked what is the total amount allocated by the Delevopment Commissioners, with the approval of the Board, for various agricultural purposed in England and Wales; and what proportion of this amount has been appropriated to purposes of agricultural research?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The total amount granted to the Board is £315,641, of which £103,596 is for agricultural research.
