HC Deb 04 November 1912 vol 43 cc844-5
105. Lord N. CRICHTON STUART

asked the right hon. Gentleman whether he will consider the appointment of a larger number of sergeant-instructors for the Territorial Force for South Wales; and whether he will appoint a sergeant-instructor for each detachment of the units making up the South Wales Infantry Brigade?

Colonel SEELY

It is quite impracticable to allow a sergeant-instructor for each detachment of a unit. The present establishment of sergeant-instructors for this brigade was fixed after very full consideration of the necessities of each case, and it is not proposed to increase that number.

107. Mr. BENNETT-GOLDNEY

asked whether the Army Service Corps, the Royal Army Medical Corps, and the Army Veterinary Corps, included in the Territorial Force, are counted as non-combatants; whether officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of the non-combatant branches of the Territorial Force are trained in musketry; and, if so, to what extent and with what general results?

Colonel SEELY

The Army Service Corps is regarded as combatant. The Royal Army Medical Corps and the Veterinary Corps are regarded as non-combatant, and are not required to train in musketry.
