HC Deb 04 November 1912 vol 43 c847
35. Major HOPE

asked if the right hon. Gentleman will state what sum will be refunded by an approved society to a member who emigrates to a British Possession or foreign country in which there is no society or branch of a society to which a transfer value can be paid under Clause 32 of the National Insurance Act?

Mr. MASTERMAN

There is no provision of the National Insurance Act for the return in cash of contributions duly paid by members of approved societies. The transfer values payable under Section 32 (1) and (2) can, however, be paid at any later date if and when suitable societies or branches are established or approved under the conditions specified in that Section, although no such societies or branches may be in existence in the particular country to which the insured person is emigrating at the time when he leaves this country.

Major HOPE

What happens to the money which has been paid?

Mr. MASTERMAN

I think it would have to stand for some time ready to be used for transfer values in case societies are established for these men.
