HC Deb 16 May 1912 vol 38 cc1277-8
Mr. GODFREY LOCKER-LAMPSON

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he will admit the Press to lectures given by official lecturers on the Insurance Act in those cases where the lecturer has had less than six months' training?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Masterman)

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave him yesterday, to which I have nothing further to add.

Mr. G. LOCKER-LAMPSON

What steps will the hon. Gentleman take in regard to prohibition of the Press at these official lectures?

Mr. MASTERMAN

There is no prohibition to the introduction of the Press in meetings arranged by persons who desire the Press to be present.

Mr. LLOYD

Will the hon. Gentleman take responsibility for all the utterances of the official lecturers?

Mr. MASTERMAN

The attitude to be taken up by the official lecturers is fully explained in the instructions issued— which I believe are in the hands of hon. Members.

Mr. LLOYD

But do the Government accept responsibility for all that is said by them?

Mr. MASTERMAN

If the hon. Gentleman will look at the instructions, he will see the measure of our responsibility.

Mr. LLOYD

What am I to understand from that?

Mr. MASTERMAN

There is a very full statement in the instructions.
