HC Deb 14 May 1912 vol 38 cc964-5
Captain CLIVE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that much higher railway rates are now charged on cider than on beer since the permission extended to brewers to consign their goods at computed weights, which are much below the actual weights, is not extended to cider makers and farmers; and if he will introduce an Amendment to the Railways Bill prohibiting these preferential rates for beer?

Mr. ROBERTSON

Undue preference is already prohibited by law, and I do not clearly understand what Amendment the hon. Member desires. If, however, he furnishes the Board with details of the complaint, they will be happy to consider the question of communicating with the railway companies concerned.
