HC Deb 14 May 1912 vol 38 c948
Mr. FRED HALL (Dulwich)

asked what were the amounts provided by France and Germany, respectively, in the present year under the head of aeronautical expenditure; and what were the respective figures for the two preceding years?

Colonel SEELY

The figures for France are understood to be as follows:—

1910 £130,280
1911 £325,300
1912 £1,280,000
The figures for Germany cannot be stated with accuracy, since details of some branches only of expenditure on aeronautics are set out in the Estimates.

Mr. FRED HALL (Dulwich)

In view of the enormous extra amount spent by other countries on this branch of the Service, will the right hon. Gentleman consider the necessity of asking for a Supplementary Estimate, in order that further improvements in regard to aviation may be made in this country?

Colonel SEELY

I think it is rather early as yet to say whether it will be necessary to ask for further funds in this matter. In any case, I should have to consult with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and the House of Commons would have to sanction the expenditure.
