HC Deb 20 June 1912 vol 39 c1835
37. Mr. O'DONNELL

asked what is the total amount of money spent on primary and secondary education in Scotland during the past financial year, and what facilities are given to the children from the primary schools to acquire secondary or higher education?

The SECRETARY for SCOTLAND (Mr. McKinnon Wood)

The expenditure figures for the last financial year are not yet available. For the year 1910–11 the expenditure on primary and secondary (including technical) education from the Parliamentary Vote was (exclusive of expenditure on administration) £2,167,737; the expenditure from local taxation sources was £254,942; while the sum raised in local rates was £1,644,546; making a total of £4,067,225, which does not include expenditure met from voluntary contributions, fees, and sundry sources. In reply to the second part of the question, I think that I cannot do better than refer the hon. Member to Section III. of the Report of the Committee of Council on Education in Scotland, presented to Parliament this month.
