35. Mr. SHIRLEY BENNasked the Home Secretary if he will state how many aliens were recommended for deportation during the six years ended 31st December, 1911, and in how many cases the recommendation was carried out?
§ Mr. McKENNADuring the six years in question 2,378 aliens were recommended for expulsion by the Courts which convicted them, and in 2,173 cases expulsion Orders were made. Of the remaining 205 cases, eighty-eight were under sentences of imprisonment or penal servitude which were unexpired on the 31st December, and in 117 expulsion Orders were not made, for reasons which are indicated in the Annual Statements as to expulsion.
