HC Deb 19 June 1912 vol 39 c1664
47. Mr. HEWINS

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the different deductions which may be drawn from rates of wages as distinct from earnings, he will undertake that in any further Reports on wages in contemplation by the Board of Trade he will include full particulars under both those heads for different classes of workers?

Mr. ROBERTSON

Various types of wages statistics are published by the Board of Trade, some dealing with rates of wages, some with actual earnings, and some with both. The general Wages Inquiry of 1906 was an investigation of earnings. In view of the difficulty of obtaining satisfactory data on these matters, I am afraid I can give no undertaking that in no case will a Board of Trade Report deal with either of these subjects without dealing with both.

Mr. HEWINS

Could not the hon. Gentleman promise to make a comparative Return for the years covered by available information at the Board of Trade now?

Mr. ROBERTSON

I should like notice of that question.
