§ 3. Mr. COWANasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is in a position to communicate to the House the text of the recent treaty between the Government of the French Republic and the Sultan of Morocco establishing a French Protectorate in that country?
§ Sir E. GREYThe text of the treaty has not yet been communicated to His Majesty's Government, and I am consequently unable to lay it before the House.
§ Sir E. GREYIf and when it is desired that we should recognise it, no doubt it will be.
§ 4. Mr. COWANasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what will be the status of the British Minister at Tangier after the establishment of a French Protectorate in Morocco; and whether he will continue to communicate directly with the Moorish Government?
§ Sir E. GREYThe status of the British representative at Tangier will necessarily depend on arrangements to be made with the French Government when they ask His Majesty's Government to recognise a French Protectorate. I am not at present in a position to say anything more definite on the subject.
