HC Deb 13 June 1912 vol 39 cc1022-3
3. Mr. COWAN

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is in a position to communicate to the House the text of the recent treaty between the Government of the French Republic and the Sultan of Morocco establishing a French Protectorate in that country?

Sir E. GREY

The text of the treaty has not yet been communicated to His Majesty's Government, and I am consequently unable to lay it before the House.

Mr. COWAN

Is any treaty likely to be communicated to His Majesty's Government?

Sir E. GREY

If and when it is desired that we should recognise it, no doubt it will be.

4. Mr. COWAN

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what will be the status of the British Minister at Tangier after the establishment of a French Protectorate in Morocco; and whether he will continue to communicate directly with the Moorish Government?

Sir E. GREY

The status of the British representative at Tangier will necessarily depend on arrangements to be made with the French Government when they ask His Majesty's Government to recognise a French Protectorate. I am not at present in a position to say anything more definite on the subject.
