HC Deb 13 June 1912 vol 39 cc1031-2
16. Mr. LYNCH

asked whether, in regard to the MacNamara and Gore estates in Doolin, West Clare, he can state that the Congested Districts Board is now in a position to acquire these estates compulsorily; or, if not, what is the cause of the delay?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Congested Districts Board do not propose to take any steps to acquire the estates referred to compulsorily pending the result of proceedings which have been taken for the compulsory purchase of other estates.

Mr. LYNCH

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that if these compulsory Clauses were applied it would give universal satisfaction in West Clare and very probably to the landlords as well?

Mr. BIRRELL

No, Sir; we are not in a position to have any such universal application.

29. Mr. CRUMLEY

asked (1) how many years have elapsed since the Fortoral estate, county Fermanagh, was sold to the tenants under the Land Purchase Acts; and why no portion of the purchase-money has since been paid to the representatives or legatees of the late owners, some of whom are in extreme poverty; (2) whether any steps have been taken or are contemplated by the Estates Commissioners to acquire the demesne attached to Fortoral House, county Fermanagh, for division amongst the occupiers of uneconomic holdings in the immediate neighbourhood which are valued at £7 or under?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners are unable from the particulars given to identify these lands as the subject of proceedings for sale before them under the Land Purchase Acts.
