HC Deb 13 June 1912 vol 39 cc1035-6
31. Mr. MITCHELL-THOMSON

asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland), whether he can state the amount of money expended by the Department during the past year on the primary schools of the Irish Church missions, the Irish Presbyterian Church missions, and the Christian Brothers, respectively?

Mr. T. W. RUSSELL (Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture,) Ireland

No money is expended by the Department in primary schools except in respect of drawing and manual instruction in certain primary schools not working in connection with the National Education Board. None of these schools appear to belong to either of the Church missions mentioned. The sum of £1,259 4s. 9d. was last year paid from voted moneys for instruction in the subjects mentioned to seventy-seven primary schools conducted by Christian Brothers, and £341 6s. 8d. to eight industrial schools conducted by this Order.
