§ 35. Mr. GEORGE GREENWOODasked whether, in view of the fact that Hindus look upon bovine animals as sacred, and have, therefore, religious objections to the practice of vaccination, he has made, or will cause to be made, any inquiry for the purpose of ascertaining the feelings of the people of India with regard to this practice?
§ Mr. MONTAGUThe Secretary of State does not consider it necessary to make the inquiry suggested. A suitable and sufficient vehicle for the expression and ascertainment of the feelings of the Indian people with regard to vaccination or any other matter is provided in the enlarged Legislative Councils.
§ Mr. KEIR HARDIEIs there any Conscience Clause in India with regard to vaccination?
§ Mr. MONTAGUI will send the hon. Member a copy of the Vaccination Acts. There has not been, so far as I am aware, any representations of objections to vaccination from India on religious grounds.
§ Colonel YATEAre there any grounds for supposing that Indians have any religious objections to vaccination?
§ Mr. MONTAGUAs I have just stated, there are no grounds whatever for that belief.
