HC Deb 13 June 1912 vol 39 c1058
84. Mr. STANIER

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention has been called to the Report of Dr. Collingridge to the Corporation of London in which he states that for some time past tuberculosis lesions have been found in Argentine beef in the central markets; and what action he has taken in the matter?

Mr. BURNS

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The matter has been investigated by my Inspectors of Foods, and I have asked the Foreign Office to communicate with the Argentine Government on the subject.

Mr. STANIER

Is it not a fact that Dr. Collingridge stated that each of the pieces of beef had borne the stamp of the Argentine Government, purporting to indicate that the animal from which it was taken had undergone a rigid inspection, and does not the right hon. Gentleman consider this a serious question?

Mr. BURNS

Yes, that paragraph is in that particular Report, but I shall have much pleasure in showing the hon. Member other paragraphs in that Report which it is important he should read and understand.
