HC Deb 12 June 1912 vol 39 c835
1. Sir J. D. REES

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War, whether in view of the normal requirements of the situation and of the difficulties the Italians were experiencing in Tripoli, the Government proposed to raise the strength of the Army of occupation in Egypt to a division with a brigade of Cavalry, the strength formerly foreshadowed by Lord Haldane?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Tennant)

No statement can be made on this matter.

Mr. ASHLEY

Have the troops recently sent away from Egypt yet returned?

Mr. TENNANT

I cannot say that.

Sir J. D. REES

Am I right in attributing to Lord Haldane the statement in the question, or is it repudiated?

Mr. TENNANT

I am not aware that it is in any way repudiated.
