2. Mr. WEIGALL

asked the Undersecretary of State for War if he would state the amount of petrol now in hand for the use of the Army; and what provisions were made for the storage of as reserve supply for use in case of emergency?

Mr. TENNANT

Petrol is at present supplied by contractors on requisition. The question of storage of a reserve is now under consideration.

Mr. WEIGALL

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the Governments of foreign powers are now paying considerable annual subsidies in order to ensure reserve supplies of petrol, and is it the opinion of the Government that what is a. necessity to other countries is only a. luxury to this country?

Mr. TENNANT

I have been informed that other countries are making such provision, and it is the question which I have1 stated is under the consideration of the War Office. A decision will be arrived at very soon.

Is there no storage of petrol at the present time?

Mr. TENNANT

Oh, yes. We have a. considerable storage.
