HC Deb 11 June 1912 vol 39 c696
76. EARL Of RONALDSHAY

asked the Attorney-General, if his attention has been called to a speech delivered by Mr. Ben Tillett at Preston on 19th May last, in which he said he was out to tell the soldiers not to shoot, that he did not tell them not to shoot their own officers or capitalists, but that they should not shoot their own equals, for the soldier who shot one of them was guilty of murder; and will he say what steps he has taken, or proposes to take, in the matter?

Mr. McKENNA

The question does not correctly state the substance of the speech in question according to reports before me, inasmuch as I cannot find in these reports any incitement to the men to shoot their own officers or capitalists. I do not propose to take any steps in the matter.

EARL Of RONALDSHAY

Will the right hon. Gentleman say what the reports are to which he refers?

Mr. McKENNA

I am speaking only in the name of the Attorney-General, and I will ask the Noble Lord to put his question to the Attorney-General.
