HC Deb 11 June 1912 vol 39 c694
67. Captain CLIVE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he has now satisfied himself that the refusal by the railway companies to allow cider to be consigned at the same computed weights as they allow for beer constitutes an undue preference in favour of beer; and, since undue preference is prohibited by law, what action he proposes to take?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Robert, son)

Questions of undue preference are determined by the Railway and Canal Commission and not by the Board of Trade. The Board are, however, in communication with the railway companies on the subject of the carriage of cider, and on receipt of the necessary information I will communicate with the hon. and gallant Member.
