HC Deb 11 June 1912 vol 39 cc686-7
42. Mr. STANIER

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether the Board supply serum for inoculation against African red water fever; and, if not, where it can be got; and is he aware that importers of cattle are now asking for this inoculation before the cattle leave this country?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

British cattle intended for export to foreign countries have been inoculated against red water by the Board's veterinary officers for some years past. The demand is increasing, and I hope to be able to make arrangements to meet it; but, in view of the risks involved, I do not think it would be desirable that the virus should be supplied from the Board's laboratory for use elsewhere.
