HC Deb 11 June 1912 vol 39 c681
15. Sir J. D. REES

asked the Undersecretary of State for India, whether he was aware that since the introduction of the Insurance Bill fraudulent aid societies had been floated in India which had taken money from the poor and ignorant by advertising that for every rupee paid in they would receive several times the amount in benefits; and whether he would take steps to prevent the application of these European methods to the detriment of honest subscribers in India?

Mr. MONTAGU

The Secretary of State is not aware of the practice referred to by the hon. Member; but Acts have quite recently been placed on the Indian Statute Book to bring provident insurance societies and life assurance companies under better control.
