§ 36. Mr. GREENEasked the Secretary to the Treasury whether leave to attend the annual training of their Territorial regiments has been refused in the case of Customs and Excise officers by the Board of His Majesty's Customs and Excise; and, if so, whether he can state the reasons?
§ Mr. MASTERMANIn a certain number of cases it has been necessary for the Board of Customs and Excise, owing to pressure of work in connection with the National Insurance Act, to withhold camp leave from officers of the Department who are members of the Territorial Force. Such leave has, however, been allowed in all cases where this could be done without prejudice to the public service.
§ Mr. LYELLMay I ask the right hon. Gentlemen whether these were exceptional 1178 cases due to the bringing into operation of the National Insurance Act this year?
§ Mr. MASTERMANThey were entirely exceptional cases due to the bringing of the Act into force this July.
