89. Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can give the latest information from the island of Tristan d'Acunha, and the date of that information?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Harcourt)

So far as I am aware, the latest communication from the island was received on 31st March by the clergyman who spent, several years there, being dated 26th February. It stated that all the people at Tristan are well at present.

Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

Can the right hon. Gentleman state whether a resident magistrate has been appointed there?

Mr. HARCOURT

No, I could not do that.
