HC Deb 22 July 1912 vol 41 c795
90. Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked whether the Bank of British West Africa have a monopoly of the importation of silver coinage into any, and, if so, what Crown Colonies on the West Coast; and how long the monopoly has still to run?

Mr. HARCOURT

The agreement under which the bank undertook the responsibility of importing silver coin was terminated some months ago. A temporary arrangement is now in force, pending consideration of the Report of the West African Currency Committee.

Mr. KING

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether any coinage is issued from our Mint for that region, and, if so, whether it is issued in its usual unsatisfactory state?

Mr. HARCOURT

I understand coinage is issued from our Mint. I have no knowledge as to the latter part of the question.
