HC Deb 22 July 1912 vol 41 cc779-80
20. Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

asked the number of men at present employed on the Government works at Rosyth docks; and what are the arrangements as to hospital accommodation in case of accident?

The CIVIL LORD of the ADMIRALTY (Mr Lambert)

The number of workmen at present employed on the Rosyth works is as follows:—

Contractors' men (day shift) 1,596
Contractors' men (night shift) 863
Admiralty workmen, employed departmentally (day shift only) 233
2,692
It would be difficult, within the limits of an oral answer, to give the information asked for in the second part of the question; but if the hon. and gallant Gentleman will see me, I will explain to him the hospital arrangements in vogue for dealing with accidents at these works.

Mr. REMNANT

Have the Government a local resident surgeon at these works?

Mr. LAMBERT

No, Sir, but the contractors have.

Mr. REMNANT

Has not the Secretary to the Admiralty stated on more than one occasion that they were appointing a surgeon to represent the Admiralty?
