§ 99. Mr. CHARLES DUNCANasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that, in reply to a deputation of Customs assistants in May last, he stated that the grievances of the Customs second officers will be referred to a special committee; whether he is aware that the committee does not intend considering the question; and whether any steps will be taken to review the case of the seven second officers who were affected by an order of the Board of Customs and Excise in November, 1910, whereby considerable sacrifices were made by the officers concerned for an annual allowance of £10 as second officer, and which allowance has since been withdrawn retrospectively from the date of their appointment?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEI must refer the hon. Member to the answers given to him on this subject on the 9th instant and 20th May last. It cannot be admitted that these officers have any ground for complaint. What I intended to convey to the deputation on the 3rd May last was that the case of these officers would be specially considered. This has been done.
