HC Deb 19 July 1912 vol 41 c679
26. Mr. POINTER

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the Royal London Mutual Insurance Society is informing its employés that if the society pays the contributions of its employés under the National Insurance Act the employés must declare for the approved section of the society; and what action he proposes to take to prevent this pressure on insured persons?

Mr. MASTERMAN

There is nothing in the National Insurance Act which prevents an employer from paying the contributions either of his employés in general or of such of them as he may select.

Mr. POINTER

What is the decision of the Department with regard to the last part of my question?

Mr. MASTERMAN

Whether the society are entitled to tell their employés that they must join the society's approved section or leave their service? I will inquire into that matter.
