HC Deb 17 July 1912 vol 41 c396
62. MARQUESS Of TULLIBARDINE

asked the Secretary to the Treasury why it is that any appointments in Scotland under the National Insurance Act that have been given to people serving in the Post Office have been given to females only; and whether, in view of the number of applications from the male staff, he will consider the filling up of some of the appointments by male members of the postal staff?

Mr. MASTERMAN

If the Noble Lord refers to appointments under the Health Insurance part of the Act he is misinformed. No females serving in the Post Office have yet been appointed by the Scottish Commissioners; and four second division (male) clerks in the service of the Post Office have been transferred to the Scottish Commission. Applications from men in the Post Office have received the same consideration as from those in other offices, but the Commissioners cannot allow their selection of the most suitable persons for the particular posts that may be vacant to be interfered with by any undertaking to distribute them equally among the employés of the several Government Departments.

Mr. WATT

Will the right hon. Gentleman see that applications from Perthshire have consideration?

MARQUESS Of TULLIBARDINE

And those, too, from Glasgow?
