HC Deb 26 February 1912 vol 34 c996
Mr. PAGET

asked the Prime Minister whether he proposes to introduce legislation to amend the law relating to collisions at sea, having regard to the findings of the Admiralty Court in the recent "Hawke"-"Olympic" case, in which it appeared that when a vessel under charge of a Trinity pilot in compulsory pilotage waters causes a collision her owners are under no legal liability to pay compensation for the damage done, even though the vessel under such pilotage may be solely to blame for the collision?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. J. Robertson)

My right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. The Pilotage Bill which my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade introduced last August contained a provision (Clause 45) dealing with this matter. It is proposed to introduce a Bill containing a similar provision during the present Session.
