HC Deb 26 February 1912 vol 34 c969
Mr. STANIER

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he can state where the new test station for cattle intended for exportation to South Africa will be located; and who will be in charge of the station?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Runciman)

No decision has as yet been arrived at with regard to the establishment of a station and it would be premature therefore for me to say anything as to the question of site. But it will in any case be under the direct control and charge of the Board.

Mr. STANIER

asked who will bear the cost of testing the animals at the test station for tuberculosis.

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The intention is that the cost of the upkeep of the station, if it is established, should be met by fees payable by the owners of the stock quarantined or tested thereon.

Mr. C. BATHURST

Is it proposed to allow the representatives of foreign buyers to conduct the tests at these stations?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I think the test will be quite well conducted by the staff at the station.
