§ Sir CLEMENT KINLOCH - COOKEasked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware of the recent experiment made by the New Zealand Government in placing town lads from the Motherland on Colonial farms; and whether he is prepared to assist in the extension of this work by a Grant-in-Aid from public funds?
§ Mr. BURNSMy attention has been drawn to the experiment referred to. The hon. Member is no doubt aware of the powers of local authorities to assist emigration at the cost of the rates. I am not in a position to assist the work in question by a Grant out of public funds.
§ Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKEDoes the right hon. Gentleman know the views of most Members of the House in regard to boy labour?
§ Mr. BURNSYes, I do, and they were dealt with by myself at the Imperial Conference and by Colonial Ministers. If my hon. Friend would like further information upon it I would refer him to a very sensible letter in a good newspaper, namely, the "Birmingham Daily Post," by my right hon. Friend the Member for Bordesley (Mr. Jesse Collings).
