HC Deb 19 February 1912 vol 34 cc304-5
Mr. HAYES FISHER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Committee on Imperial and Local Taxation have received any oral evidence; and, if so, on behalf of what bodies and by what persons has such evidence been given; whether any of such evidence relates specially to the rating or taxation of site values; what other bodies or persons will be asked or allowed to tender evidence; whether the evidence given is now available to those interested; whether it will be published or, if the proceedings of the Committee are not published, in what form will publicity be given to them; and whether, in view of the fact that the municipal authorities are now framing their estimates for the year 1912–13, the Report of the Committee will be issued in time for him to give effect in the next Budget to any recommendations which the Committee may make for the redress of the ratepayers' grievances?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The Committee have taken oral evidence, including evidence relating to the taxation of site values. Further oral evidence will be given, but I cannot give the right hon. Gentleman a full list of the witnesses. As regards the rest of his question, I will refer him to what I said on Friday.

Mr. W. PEEL

Will the right hon. Gentleman make it clear whether he will publish the evidence which has been given already in order that subsequent witnesses may judge what has been said?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

That is the point on which I suggested that a question should be put to me later on. I must consult the chairman of the Committee before I give a definite answer.
