§ Mr. MASTERMANThe answer to the first part of the hon. Member's question is in the negative, unless the researches and experiments proposed have some direct and specific reference to the development of agriculture and fisheries or the other subsidiary purposes mentioned by name in Part I. of the Development and Road Improvement Funds Act, 1909. If the researches and experiments proposed are of this nature and are not intended merely to find a substitute for petrol in motor locomotion generally, any application for an advance from the Development Fund will be considered on its merits.
