HC Deb 17 December 1912 vol 45 cc1289-90
59. Mr. MORTON

asked whether the Scottish Agricultural Board has yet applied to the Development Commissioners for a Grant to promote the growth of tobacco in Scotland; if so, with what result; and whether Scotland will be treated as liberally as Ireand in this matter?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I understand that a society called the British Tobacco Growers' Society has been formed under the auspices of the Development Commissioners, and that any assistance which may be given to that society will be available for England and Scotland alike. The case of Ireland came up before the Development Commission was established, and received treatment on a different principle.

Mr. MORTON

Will the right hon. Gentleman answer my question as to whether any application has been made to the Commissioners?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

No; for the reason I have stated in the answer.
