HC Deb 17 December 1912 vol 45 cc1277-8
29. Sir REGINALD POLE-CAREW

asked the Secretary of State for War whether it is proposed to reduce any of the batteries of Horse or Field Artillery now existing; if so, how many, and when; and whether he will give a reason for this reduction?

Colonel SEELY

I have nothing at present to add to the reply which I gave to a question put on this subject by the hon. Gentleman the junior Member for Bath on 25th November.

Mr. LEE

Will the right hon. Gentleman see that no reduction of a serious character shall take place unless the House of Commons has had an opportunity of expressing an opinion?

Colonel SEELY

I do not know what the hon. Gentleman means by "serious character." There is no suggestion of that kind in the question. I will undertake to use my best endeavours to see that the Artillery is strengthened.

34. Major STANLEY

asked what are the rates of fire per minute of the guns supplied to the Regular Horse and Field Artillery and the Territorial Horse and Field Artillery?

Colonel SEELY

The rates of aimed fire per minute are as follows:—

Regular Horse and Field Artillery (13-pr. and18-pr.) 18 rounds.
Territorial Force Royal Horse Artillery(15-pr. Q.F.) 13 rounds.
Territorial Force Royal Field Artillery (15-pr.B.L.C.) 10 rounds.
