HC Deb 11 December 1912 vol 45 c453
58. Sir REGINALD POLE-CAREW

asked how many trained and seasoned horses of the number required on mobilisation, in addition to those now serving in the ranks, are available in the United Kingdom at two weeks' notice suitable for cavalry, Military Mounted Police, Royal Horse and Field Artillery, Royal Field Artillery (howitzer batteries), Royal Garrison Artillery (heavy batteries), Royal Engineers, Army Service Corps, and Mounted Infantry?

Colonel SEELY

The demands for horses on mobilisation will be completely met within the United Kingdom and in the time required. The horses will be in working condition.

Sir R. POLE-CAREW

Does the right hon. Gentleman say that four or five year old horses are seasoned?

Colonel SEELY

I say all these horses will be in perfect condition. As to the question of what is a seasoned horse, I shall be glad if the hon. and gallant Gentleman will put down a question.

Mr. LANE-FOX

How long does a four-year-old remain a seasoned horse?

Colonel SEELY

That is a point on which a question should be put down.
