HC Deb 04 December 1912 vol 44 c2289
64. Mr. HUGH BARRIE

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he has now received a Report in reference to the suitability of Heysham Harbour for the reception of Irish cattle under quarantine regulations; and whether he has decided to permit shipments being made to it?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

Yes, Sir. One of the superintending inspectors of the Board visited Heysham on Monday last, and conferred with representatives of the Midland Railway on this subject. I gather from his report that suitable accommodation for the reception and detention of Irish cattle there could be provided without any serious difficulty. The company will submit detailed proposals for the purpose for the Board's examination, and I hope that it may be possible for the necessary work to be put in hand and completed at an early date.
