§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Montagu)Major Bickford has reported that, when driving from Fort Sandeman to Babar, on 14th June, with an escort of four Militia sowars, he was attacked by raiders, who opened fire and killed one of the sowars and badly wounded another. Major Bickford was unarmed and was shot through the thigh; the third sowar was wounded; but the fourth sowar very pluckily held his ground and returned the fire of the enemy, who, after three-quarters of an hour, made off. The second sowar succumbed to his wounds.
