HC Deb 01 April 1912 vol 36 cc880-1
Mr. JOYNSON-HICKS

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether the contract for 1,200 wheels and axles recently placed by the East Indian Railway with a foreign firm contained any provisions analogous to the Fair-Wages conditions of English Government con- tracts; and, if not, whether he would see that they were embodied in future orders?

Mr. MONTAGU

The placing of such contracts is in the discretion of the railway company's board. The Secretary of State does not propose to interfere in any such way as the hon. Member suggests.
