HC Deb 26 October 1911 vol 30 cc288-9
Mr. BOTTOMLEY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has complaints respecting the present management of the reformatory ship "Mount Edgcumbe," or whether he proposes to institute an inquiry into the matter?

Mr. McKENNA

Certain charges with regard to the condition of things on board this ship have been brought to my notice. The matters referred to occurred more than fifteen months ago, and an inquiry was held by the Committee of Management in August, 1910, as a result of which one of the officers was dismissed, and the superintendent—whose management was found to be very lax—resigned his position. The school is now under new and satisfactory management.
