HC Deb 29 November 1911 vol 32 cc405-6
Mr. GINNELL

asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland) why the banking statistics of Ireland to June, 1911, prepared by the Department, contain no account of the National Thrift Bank or of the Guardian Bank; and whether he will ascertain and state the facts of public interest concerning those two institutions?

The VICE-PRESIDENT of the DEPARTMENT of AGRICULTURE (Ireland) (Mr. T. W. Russell)

The National Thrift Bank appears to have been the personal concern of an individual who was recently prosecuted on behalf of the Crown and sentenced to imprisonment for obtaining money under false pretences in connection with that concern. The other bank mentioned in the question is not one of those coming within the scope of the Departmental Report referred to.
