HC Deb 28 November 1911 vol 32 cc192-3
Mr. GODFREY LOCKER-LAMPSON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can say when the names of the Insurance Commissioners will be announced?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

It is proposed to appoint Commissioners for England as follows:—

Chairman—Sir Robert Morant, K.C.B., Permanent Secretary to the Board of Education. Commissioners—Mr. John Bradbury, C.B., Principal Clerk of the Finance Division of the Treasury.

Mr. D. J. Shackleton, Labour Adviser to the Home Office.

Mr. J. Lister Stead, Secretary of the Ancient Order of Foresters.

Miss Mona Wilson, an Appointed Member under the Trade Boards Act.

The Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies will be an ex-officio member of the Commission. The Secretary will be Mr. W. J. Braithwaite, an assistant secretary in the Inland Revenue Department. Another Commissioner will be chosen from the medical profession, but I am not able to-day to publish his name.

Mr. C. BATHURST

Will Sir Robert Morant cease to be Permanent Secretary of the Board of Education?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I should have thought it was hardly necessary to ask such a question: the task he has undertaken will be a gigantic one.

Mr. WILLIAM O'BRIEN

Is there any chance of our learning the names of the Irish Commissioners?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I think I answered that question yesterday. I hope to be able to announce them before the Bill leaves the House. I am engaged now in considering the question, but I cannot to-day give any answer on the subject.

Mr. W. O'BRIEN

Does the hope refer to the Report stage or the Third Reading stage?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I do not think it makes much difference: I do not know that there will be any interval between the Report stage or the Third Reading, but I cannot promise.

Mr. PRINGLE

rose.

Mr. SPEAKER

Any further questions should be put down.
