HC Deb 27 November 1911 vol 32 cc23-4
Sir EDWARD CARSON

asked the Prime Minister whether the detailed figures given in the amended Return, 11th October, 1911 (Parliamentary Paper, No. 220), showing for the year ended 31st March, 1911, the amount contributed by England, Scotland, and Ireland, respec- tively, to the revenue collected by Imperial officers, the expenditure on English, Scottish, and Irish sources met out of such revenue, and the balances of revenue respectively which are available for Imperial expenditure, may be still accepted as accurate; whether also the figures set forth in the substituted Return, October, 1911 (Parliamentary Paper, No. 221), showing the estimated true revenue of Great Britain and Ireland and their respective expenditures and contributions to Imperial services, may still be accepted as accurate, or whether the Report of the Committee appointed by the Government to consider the financial relations between Ireland and the other parts of the United Kingdom necessitates any alteration in such Returns; and, if so, whether corrected Returns can be issued?

The PRIME MINISTER

The utmost pains have been taken to make the estimates of "true" revenue approximately correct, and it is believed that the total revenue as given in the revised Returns approximates closely to the facts.
