§ Mr. KELLAWAYasked the Under-Secretary of State for War the cost of the use of the military in connection with the recent railway strike, and the amount of such cost represented by payments by the Government to the railway companies; if the information is not yet available, when he hopes that it will be; and on what Vote the expenditure will be borne?
§ Colonel SEELYThe Returns which are being furnished by the various commands are involving very considerable labour in compilation, and will probably not be completed for some time. As regards the railway companies several bills are still outstanding. It is, therefore, very improbable that I shall be able to give any information as to the cost for some weeks. The expenditure will mainly be borne on Votes VI. and VII.
§ Mr. KELLAWAYWill the information as to the amounts to be paid to the railway companies be available on Wednesday?
§ Colonel SEELYI should not think so. We have not got all the bills in yet.
§ Mr. WATTIs the Government making any claim on the railway companies for the assistance given to them in working their lines?
§ Colonel SEELYThat does not arise out of this question. Perhaps my hon. Friend would put down a question.
