HC Deb 20 November 1911 vol 31 c819
Mr. GILHOOLY

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether there is a tax of 8s. 4d. per barrel on Irish-cured mackerel imported into the American markets; and, if so, will he direct the attention of the British Ambassador in America to it, with a view to using his good offices to have such tax abated or reduced?

Mr. BUXTON

The duty leviable on cured mackerel on importation into the United States is one cent per pound. As regards the second part of the question, I am afraid that I have nothing to add at present to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member on 13th February last, of which I am sending him a copy.
