§ Mr. NEWMANasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the uncertainty and anxiety caused to various sections of the community who are being called on to exercise the suffrage at by-elections in different parts of the country by reason of the non-tabling of Amendments foreshadowed to the National Insurance Bill, he can see his way to place on the Paper any Government Amendment contemplated so as to remove uncertainty and give those called on to exercise the suffrage the longest period possible in which to make themselves acquainted with the Amendments proposed?
Mr. McKINNON WOODMy right hon. Friend has always endeavoured to table his Amendments as early as possible. Any delay which has arisen has been due to his desire to give thorough consideration to every point and to consult all the interests concerned.
§ Mr. NEWMANMay I ask whether any Amendments to be proposed by the Government on the Report stage will be put down as soon as possible?
