HC Deb 20 November 1911 vol 31 c817
Sir H. CARLILE

asked whether, in view of the fact that three years have elapsed since the Report of the Royal Commission on the Care and Control of the Feebleminded was issued, and that the evils attendant on the present system, owing to the want of powers of control and segregation, are, if anything, increasing, and that race deterioration is consequently threatened and expense incurred which might be avoided, the Government proposes to introduce the necessary remedial legislation; and, if so, whether it is intended to do so during the next Session?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have nothing to add to the answer which I gave to a similar question on 1st November.

Sir H. CARLILE

Can the right hon. Gentleman give any prospect now of legislation?

The PRIME MINISTER

If the hon. Gentleman looks at the former answer, he will see that the matter is engaging our serious attention, and I earnestly hope it will be possible at an early date to deal with it.
