HC Deb 20 November 1911 vol 31 cc801-2
Captain WARING

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he is aware that in ordinary farm valuations in England, including awards under the Agricultural Holdings Act, licensed valuers decline to state any separate item, and only issue awards whereby payment is instructed by an aggregate sum; and whether he will consider the advisability of introducing legislation making the itemising of such valuations and awards compulsory?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I understand that arbitrators in ordinary farm valuations do not as a rule give details of their awards. As regards valuations under the Agricultural Holdings Act of 1908, however, Rule 10 in the Second Schedule to the Acts requires the arbitrator, on the application of either party, to specify the amount awarded in respect of any particular improvement or any particular matter which is the subject of the award. In the circumstances, and on the information at present before me, I do not think there is any pressing need for legislation.
