Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTTasked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to an announcement in the Gazette in which the kingdom of Scotland is referred to as a Principality; whether there is any precedent for this description; and by whose advice it was used?
§ The PRIME MINISTERMy hon. Friend is in error in suggesting that the Kingdom of Scotland was referred to in the Gazette as a Principality. The Principality referred to was that which goes with the title of Prince of Scotland, which is, and has for many centuries been, the first title of the eldest son of the King of Scotland.
