HC Deb 14 November 1911 vol 31 c203
Mr. BOTTOMLEY

asked the number of persons who have been incarcerated in lunatic asylums during the past five years for religious mania, the number of suicides during the same period from the same cause, and the number of deaths which have occurred as the result of religious disturbances during the same period?

Mr. McKENNA

The statistics of lunacy and of suicide do not distinguish cases of so-called religious mania from other cases of mania, nor are deaths classified under any such head as deaths from religions disturbances. I am unable, therefore, to give the figures the hon. Member desires.

Mr. BOTTOMLEY

If the right hon. Gentleman cannot tell me how many victims of religious mania are to be found in our lunatic asylums, can he give an approximate estimate at large on these benches?

Mr. WATT

What is the number of inmates of lunatic asylums who owe their position to indulging in excessive horseracing?
