asked the Under-Secretary of State for War what is the present shortage of the Royal Army Medical Corps, of all ranks, in the Regular Army, in the Reserve, and in the Territorial Force; at the last three examinations of candidates for commissions in the Royal Army Medical Corps have the numbers of those who have duly qualified exceeded the number of vacancies; and how many candidates are there at present for existing vacancies in the commissioned ranks of the Royal Army Medical Corps?

The present shortage is as follows:—

There is no definite establishment of officers of the Special Reserve, but the present strength amounts to 114. At the last three examinations for commissions, the numbers of candidates qualified exceeded the number of vacancies. For the examination to be held next January for not less than twenty vacancies three candidates have already entered, but the list will not be closed until January 15th.
